Why Succulents?
Succulents are plants that store water in their fleshy leaves, stems or roots. Cacti are also included in the succulent family. Succulent plants have been increasing in popularity recently where the diversity and distinguishing charactaristics of these plants can intrigue most anyone. For Eve, her interest in succulents has grown to passion, mostly due to their graceful elegance of shape, colour and texture. Perfect rosette shapes or beautiful trailing stems will add visual impact to any room or outdoor garden.
Succulents can originate from desert and arid landscapes to humid jungles and alpine slopes. These drought tolerant plants can produce exquisite flowers with vibrant colours, eye-catching shapes and trailing clusters. Whether displayed in a simple clay pot or a potted garden design, succulents can be an interesting compliment to any gardeners' collection or as a unique gift for those special moments.
Living Green
A growing trend among large cities is a green initiative to combat the enviromental impact of large urban cities. As our communities rally to the cause (both as a community and as individuals), our awareness begins to grow which in turn affects our choices as consumers.
As we strive to free our environment of humanities impact on our planet, major environmental initiatives (Global) designed to repair and restore our planet begin in the palm of a single hand. At home, we can swap out lighting for 'green bulbs' or replace water guzzling toilets. On the road we can switch to hybrid cars, smaller cars or even mopeds in the summer months. We can choose to drive less and walk more...or car pool when possible and even transit.
Simply consider your choices when making decisions. Your great-great grandkids will thank you for it. Among the growing trends enviromentally already being led by the advent of solar panels, wind turbines and concepts like 'living off the grid', are living walls and green roofs.
This recent trend in green roofs has necesitated the need for low maintenance plant life very much like succulents. Succulents strive and prefer hot and dry growing conditions, requiring little water; perfect for green roofs.Living walls are becoming popular as modern design coupled with a diverse selection of plant life come together to create intriguing visual displays of elegant proportions.
